Angela Gordon mixes her passion for food and art into a dynamically successful restaurant and catering business. This native Texan from Tyler started off with a home based catering business in 1977 in the Park Cities area of Dallas and hasn’t stopped creating delicious dishes ever since. Angela gained early success with her catering business by simple word of mouth and after 25 years, Angela decided to venture out and open up her first restaurant in October 2004. Angela Gordon’s Bistro 51 located in the heart of the State Thomas District is known as one of the hottest lunch and dinner spots in Uptown. This urban eatery has skyrocketed to fame as having one of the best rack of lamb in Texas.  Angela is an active member of the Junior League of Dallas as well as other civic organizations and boards in the Dallas Community.

I had a chance to meet with Holly Gordon and pick her brain about her extremely talented and busy mom.
What is your mom’s favorite dish on the menu to eat and make?
“Her absolute favorite dish on the menu is the Rack of Lamb. It is not only her dish of choice to eat but also her favorite to make. We have the lamb imported fresh from New Zealand and marinate it in our special blend of spices, and then they are herb incrusted.
Why did you choose Uptown as the location for your first restaurant?
“We chose Uptown as the location for our first restaurant because we fell in love with the neighborhood feel and the cute area.”
What is your mom’s favorite thing about Uptown?
“My mom’s favorite thing about Uptown is definitely the sense of community, such as the block party, and the fact that you can walk anywhere and feel safe.”

Three words to describe your mom:
Outgoing, Driven, Creative.
